Mangalore, Jan 24: The inaugural of Dakshina Kannnada district annual police sports meet was held at Police Ground on Thursday January 22.
Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar Sharma, headquarters assistant in the office of the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district said that the meet provides a forum for the police personnel to relax and divert their over-burdened bodies and minds from the routine grind.
The police officials face lot of challenges in their day-to-day life. Most of the time officials remain mentally disturbed after having to put in long hours of work without rest. Under these circumstances, sports meets provide them an opportunity for rest, recuperation and get refreshed, both physically and mentally, he felt.
The march past by athletes from five contingents provided an attractive sight. Prabhakar Sharma and R Dilip, additional superintendent of police, inspected the guard of honour.
Previous year's sports champion Radhakrishna ignited the sports flame on the occasion.
Around 250 police officials from the city, women’s division, Panamboor, Puttur and district armed reserved force, are participating in the sports meet.
R Dilip, additional superintendent of police welcomed the gathering. Dharmaiah, deputy superintendent of police, proposed vote of thanks.
