Bengaluru: Assembly adjourned over BJP ruckus - 'Step down CM' MLAs chant

Bengaluru, Feb 7 (IANS): Uproar and protest by BJP legislators against the JD-S-Congress coalition government on Thursday forced the Karnataka legislature, comprising Assembly and Council, to adjourn.

As soon as the Assembly and Council began on the second day of the 10-day Budget session, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators walked towards the Chairs of the Houses and shouted slogans against the ruling allies.

"Step down, step down. Chief Minister, step down!" the legislators screamed, alleging that the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S)-Congress coalition government was in power despite "not having majority".

In the Assembly, Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar adjourned the proceedings till Friday as the BJP members continued their protest and refused to return to their seats to allow smooth conduct of the business listed for the day.

The Legislative Council was also adjourned till afternoon.

"We are protesting because the JD-S-Congress coalition does not have the support of the majority. They do not have the moral right to present a new Budget under such circumstances," BJP state unit President B.S. Yeddyurappa told reporters outside the Assembly later.

His party, however, will not be moving a 'no-confidence' motion against the government, he said.

The Budget session began on a stormy note on Wednesday amid BJP legislators' protests, forcing Governor Vajubhai Vala to cut short his address to a joint session.

Average MLA Salary in India is Rs.1,10,000 ($1,800). MLA Salary in India includes Allowances and Perquisites. Constituency Allowance is included while calculating the Salary of an MLA. The Average MLA Salary has seen a hike of 120% in India in recent years.
An RTI reply shows that Karnataka government since the last five years (2013-2018) has spent around Rs 235 crore on the salaries of MLAs and MLCs. This includes travel allowance, daily allowance, medical allowance, and phone allowance.
If imagine employee absent from private company and calculate is monthly salary with a number of days absent. In India even if school children get absent they have to present 'leave a note' or 'Fitness certificate'.
The disruption of Lok Sabha or state assembly is an absolute loss for the national exchequer regardless of the party. It is a waste of taxpayers money.
The Karnataka MLA's paid monthly salary of Rs 68,000 and a monthly allowances.

    1. If a decent debate is not allowed during assembly session how does BJP is going to deliver 'Good Governance' to the people?
    2. If a code of conduct is applicable to school children why not elected representatives of India?
    3. Why not there is law if MLA's are disrupting session or absent not allowed to vote on bills or no confidence motion in India?

In India, we have a lot of rules for 'Cricket'. But when it comes to peoples' mandate every violation is acceptable.

Firstly JDS (36 seats) & Cong (70 seats) were not the mandate of people . They were outrightly rejected.
BJP was the choice of the Kannadigas 105 seats . It was just bad luck that they could not get the majority. So JDS_Congi stole the mandate from the people. There is nothing wrong in protesting against such an unwanted alliance.

Nearly 10 ruling party MLAs have absented themselves from the joint session. As expected, four disgruntled MLAs - Ramesh Jarkiholi (Gokak), Umesh G Jadhav (Chincholi), B Nagendra (Bellary), Mahesh Kumathalli (Athani) - who have all been issued show cause notices by the Congress did not attend the session.
Two Independent MLAs H Nagesh (Mulbagal) and R Shankar (Ranebennur), who have withdrawn the support to the government, too were not to be seen.
In addition to these, other disgruntled Congress MLAs like Basanagouda Daddal (Raichur Rural), B C Patil (Hirekerur), Paratapgouda Patil (Maski), Ramalinga Reddy (BTM Layout), his daughter Sowmya Reddy (Jayanagar) too have absented themselves from the session. Kampli MLA J N Ganesh, who is facing attempt to murder charges for attacking Vijayanagar MLA Anand Singh, too gave the session a skip. The police are yet to arrest the MLA.

Interestingly, JD(S) MLA Narayan Gowda (K R Pet) was among the absentee MLAs.

Crooked idea. Dear Protesting MLA's you are elected to protest and waste our money and do operation or you are elected to serve the state and nation. We are not fools. Let the budget be presented why u r worried let us see any beneficial to the people than the central budget. Why to simply spoil the time doing nothing.

People are voting to have a good stable government and what they get to see is
a Dombarate & circus in the Assembly hall or in Parliament house. How such non sense attitude can work for the people and for the country. Leaders are engaged only in political vendetta how to fix the opposition and tarnish their name. BJP's attitude is divisive rule. Nothing else.

Till Amit Shah is there, BJP is like uncultured and undemocratic. They want power by hook or crook. This is what Modiji has given to the people. They are very much upset with Congress and other parties. If BJP comes to power in Karnataka, then their position will be worse then Congress + JDs.

Democarcy mein yeh sab chalta hain... Congi-JDS are no saints either. Their party do the same thing in Delhi, so now have a taste of your own medicine. The Cong leader Siddu wants to be the CM of the coalition. Kummy is not going to give it. So thats the bottom line of issues. So blaming BJP is easy for them.
