Puttur, Jan 23: The annual ‘Nemotsav’ celebrations of Mogeradka Temple in Uppinangady was held on Thursday January 22. On this occasion, the family of Siddu, one of the 14 families from the village that had been barred from entering the temple since the last ten years, entered the temple and accepted the 'Prasadam'.
There were rumours that the Nemotsava committee would try to block their entry into the temple. However, a significant media presence on the occasion seems to have discouraged them from acting against the family. According to sources, the Nemotsava committee had restricted the said dalit family along with 13 other families of that village from participating in the Nemotsav.
A festival of cock-fight was held for five consecutive days at the temple, prior to the Nemotsav. It is believed, that the Nemotsav Committee could collect a whopping Rs 10 lac through the event. Cock-fight enthusiasts from far off places like Kerala, Maharastra and other districts of Karnataka had taken part in the festival.
D V Sadanand Gowda, Member of Parliament visited the temple on the occasion. Kushalappa Gowda, Beltangady taluk BJP president, Bhaskar Nellyady, member, BJP Yuvajana Morcha and Yogish Shenoy Uppinangady accompanied him.
