Sullia, Jan 23: Nagaraj, working as the superintendent in the office of the assistant commissioner of religious endowments department in Mangalore, who was suspended after being caught by the security officials while taking away Rs 4,500 belonging to Subrahmanya temple, is facing disciplinary action from the department.
It may be recalled that the official who was deputed for supervision during the process of donation box collection counting in Subrahmanya temple on Wednesday January 21, was seen taking away money from the temple funds. He is being charged with dereliction of duty and fraud. A departmental inquiry is being ordered against him. At the same time, the Sullia court where he was produced by the Subrahmanya police, has remanded him to judicial custody.
After the policemen inspected the room in which Nagaraj was accommodated, they found additional currency notes amounting to Rs 8,500 in the denominations of Rs 1,000 and 500, folded and hidden on the back of a framed photograph hung from the wall.
The temple executive officer, who contacted the endowments commissioner, filed a police complaint as per instructions on Wednesday. The policemen registered a case against him and produced in the court.
