Mangaluru, Feb 6: State minister for youth empowerment and sports, Rahim Khan, said that necessary steps are being undertaken to build separate sports hostel for girls in the city at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. He was speaking during his visit to Mangala Stadium here on Tuesday February 5.
Khan said that at the pre-budget meeting, a demand for grant of Rs 500 crore for sports activities in the state has been placed in order to achieve integrated development of sports.
Deputy director of the department, Pradeep D'Souza, said that administrative approval has already been given for providing opportunity to Kabaddi players to stay in the sports hostel and also for the construction of a well-equipped stadium at Benjanapadavu in Bantwal taluk. He requested for the release of grants for executing the project.
The government has already sanctioned a sum of one crore rupees for the development of football stadium in Nehru Maidan. Because of technical problems, progress of the work has been stalled. The project has since been revised, and sent with a recommendation to approve the same for Rs 1.25 crore. The proposal is under the consideration of the government. D'Souza sought the minister's help for the early approval of the project.
