Udupi, Jan 23: The activists of the district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) staged a protest rally from service bus stand to the police district headquarters on Thursday January 22, and presented a memorandum to superintendent of police (SP) Praveen Madhukar Pawar.
The protesters in their memorandum alleged that deputy commissioner (DC) P Hemalata, had disgraced all Kannadigas by addressing the grievances of citizens in English during the transport meet organized by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) at the DC’s office a few days ago.
KRV activists including district president Satish S Kalmady and women’s wing president Mamata Kadiyali, who objected to this were arrested by the police alleging that the pro-Kannada demand was illegal.
Kalmady urged the district police to withdraw the false case registered against KRV and threatened to intensify the protest if their demands are not met at the earliest.
