Udupi, Jan 23: A dismissed employee of a transport company is protesting in front of his former employer’s office here since Monday January 19.
Shashidar (34), a native of Shimoga, has been working as a conductor since 13 years with city-based Hanuman Motor Transport (HMT) that owns a fleet of passenger buses. He was dismissed on June 11, 2008, after lapse in duty on May 18, 2008. A subsequent enquiry into his case by the labour officer went in favour of Hanuman Transport.
Shashidar embarked on the protest in front of the company’s headquarters located at Chitpady from Monday alleging that the injustice had caused mental trauma to him and his family. He alleged that threats from his employer drove him to stage the protest.
Shashidar also demanded that actions should be taken against the owners of the transport company and the labour officer who upheld his dismissal though he had not committed such a gross offence.
