Mangaluru, Feb 6: "In a time where the artistes are being framed for silly reasons, though they shine on the Yakshagana dais, there is a need for the artistes to get united," said Patla Satish Shetty, founder president of Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation.
Satish Shetty was speaking at the second anniversary celebration programme of Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust, city unit that was held at Townhall in the city on Tuesday, February 5.
Satish Shetty further said, "The artiste are being targetted for the words they utter on the Yakshagana dais in the flow of the character without any bad intention. Many cases of this nature have happened of late. More than 25 cases were registered on the artistes who featured in the 'Yaksha Hasya' programme that was held in World Tulu Convention at Dubai after completion of one month from the date of the programme,"
"Due to the involvement of the artistes in the character their words hurt the members of community. The artistes get huge round of applause from the audience when they perform on the dais. However, when cases are filed for the words used during the performance, the artistes themselves have to run around. In this case, fortunately, all the cases were quashed. In future, there is a need for the association to protect the artistes in this type of incidents. This does not apply to artistes who intentionally commit mistakes during the act."
"In order for the art of Yakshagana to survive and grow there is a need to encourage the weak artistes, respect the seniors, reward the young talent and teaching the art to children. This is done in a discipline manner by the Yakshadhruva city unit," concluded Satish Shetty.
Pradeep Alva, president of city unit welcomed the gathering. Bhavyashree Kulkunda recited the prayers. Ravi Shetty Ashoknagar did the introduction. The programme was compered by Satish Shetty Kodialbail and Sahil Rai. Krishna Shetty Taremar rendered the vote of thanks.
