Beltangady, Jan 22: Reality shows being telecast in some of the private television channels are harmful for the growth of the children, said V Manohar, music director, speaking to the media persons at Swamy Vivekananda Higher Primary school, Perla on Tuesday January 20.
"Instead of functioning like talent hunts, the reality shows block the future development of the children’s talents. Several children who participated in some of these shows are suffering from mental depression. Overall, these reality shows lead to stunted growth of the childrens' talents," he opined.
"The shows ultimately work to reduce the competitive spirit prevalent among the children. The channels must identify the talents instead of discouraging them,” Manohar added.
Learning music needs lot of hard work, patience and dedication. The parents who desire their students to participate in the shows, bring pressure on the mentors to train their children within a short span of time. This later leads to anxious and dangerous growth in mental tendencies, Manohar warned.
The reality shows are organized just for the commercial gains and hence, they must be restricted, he demanded.
