Mangalore, Jan 21: Department of handlooms and textiles assistant director B R Yogish said, that the upcoming textiles park is likely to be set up in Ira village near Bantwal as per the present plans.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Monday January 19, he informed that the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has initiated the process of acquiring land in the village for the proposed park. The department has sought 300 acres of land for the park, out of about 700 acres land that will be acquired by KIADB, he revealed.
Under the golden jubilee textiles policy announced the government, textiles and garment industries will be set up for providing employment opportunities in rural areas. The youth will be provided with international level training in garment and textiles. In the district, training facilities have been made available at Gurpur and Kinnigoli villages and the department has plans to introduce the training programmes in Mangalrore Institute of Fashion Technology, Gloria College Puttur and Community Polytechnic in Subrahmanya, he explained.
The textile park will come up soon. People willing to undergo the training will be selected through interview. During the training period, trainees are eligible for Rs 2000 stipend every month. Those who want to undergo stitching training, must have educational qualification of a minimum of fifth standard and should be in the age group of between 18 and 35 years. They must apply to the assistant director, department of handlooms and textiles, KSSIDC Building, Yeddyadi in the city before the 31st of this month, he said.
People willing to set up garments or textiles unit under the said policy are provided 15% subsidy on capital investment, he informed. There are other exemptions too in registration fee, power charges etc., Yogish explained.
