Puttur, Jan 20: ‘Gloria Fest’, the annual day celebration and an inter-collegiate dance competition of Gloria College of Fashion Design, Darbe, was held at Jain Bhavan on Saturday January 17.
Mangalore Sunada Educational Trust and Amrut Education Institutions chairperson Chandrakala Bhat inaugurated the programme on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhat highlighted the need to encourage cultural talent among the students by the heads of educational institutions.
She commended the efforts of Gloria College in promoting cultural talents by organizing inter-collegiate dance competitions.
Gloria College head of governing committee Anand Acharya, in his presidential address said that it’s essential to create awareness on fashion designing among rural students as they lag in pursing such courses.
Susheela Memorial Trust chairperson Bharati Anand Acharya, Gloria College secretary Bhaskar Acharya, treasurer Umesh Acharya, dance competition jurors Sandeep Acharya, Sandeep M B, Bangalore, and Prashant, Mangalore, were present on the dais.
Around 11 dance troupes from various colleges participated in the dance competitions. Philomena College bagged the cash award of Rs 10,000 and the championship trophy while Vivekanand College came in second bagging the cash award of Rs 5,000 and a trophy. Boluvar Indus College bagged the third place trophy and a cash award of Rs 3,000. Ujire First Grade College bagged a consolation prize of Rs 1,500 and a trophy.
Mulia Krishna Bhat and Sons managing director Keshav Prasad Muliya presented the awards during the valedictory ceremony held on Saturday evening.
Gloria College managing director Anand Acharya and principal Shivaganesh Babu were present on the dais.
