Kundapur, Feb 2: A decomposed skeleton was found in an old shed at Kumbashi near here. Prima facie, it appears to be of a female who must have died four to five years ago. Saree and blouse of the deceased were also found near the skeleton. However, the colour of the dress is completely faded.
Though it is not possible to say accurately the identity of the female, it is suspected that this may be of Malathi Shetty, who went missing four years ago. Police are investigating further.
This skeleton was unearthed on the land that belongs to a certain Praveen Shetty, a resident of Vakwadi. This land is near national highway 66 opposite Hotel Aditya of Kumbashi village. The said shed lies on this land and the land was not used since a long time. In addition, as the land is covered with tall plants and bushes, no one used to visit this area. On Friday, February 1, some workers had come with a JCB machine to clean the land. When they removed the cement sheet that was covered on the roof of the shed, they found the skeleton and informed the same to the Kundapur police immediately.
It is said that the door of the shed was locked from inside. The bones of the skeleton were sent to Manipal for forensic test.
B P Dinesh Kumar, DySP, Manjappa D R, circle police inspector, Harish R, police sub-inspector and personnel have visited the spot and are conducting further inquiry.
