Udupi, Jan 20: A seminar on the consequences of terrorism and violence was held on Monday January 19, under the aegis of Nehru Youth Centre, National Service Scheme (NSS) of Mangalore University, Tenkanidiyoor Government First Grade College, and city Lions Club, at Lions Bhavan.
Veteran freedom fighter Namdev Shenoy inaugurated the seminar on Monday morning.
Addressing the gathering, Shenoy said that it was non-violence that brought freedom to our nation. Gandhiji had proved to the world non-violence can bring rewards through persistence and perseverance, he said.
Naxalism has been witnessed in the nation over the past few years, as we have failed to pursue non-violence in realizing the justice of equality in society, said Shenoy. Only an enlightened society can alleviate terrorism and extremism, he emphasized.
Tenkanidiyoor Government First Grade College principal Professor G Yoganand presided over the programme.
Lions Club president Nandakumar and Badagubettu Co-Operative Society general manager Jayakar Shetty Indrali were present on the dais.
Nehru Youth Centre co-ordination officer Shantakumar delivered the keynote address.
Mangalore University NSS officer Dr Gananat Yekkar welcomed the gathering while Manjunath proposed the vote of thanks.
Dr Niketan compered the programme.
