Mangalore, Jan 16: After a huge upper part of a tree located in a private compound near Kankanady Market in the city snapped and came down crashing on Thursday January 15 and battered an office located in the compound, the 60-year old director of the organization functioning in the building, had a miraculous escape.
Hilda Rayappan, director of Prajna Couselling centre in Kankanady, who is a well known social worker since the last several years, escaped unhurt in the incident. She was in the office of Prajna Counselling, when the tree fell. The roof of the office was smashed under the weight of the fallen tree and tiles got broken and scattered all around the office.
The mayflower tree which suffered the fall had partly withered and gone dry due to the winter season. The officials later visited the spot and removed the part of the tree that crashed into the building.
