Mangalore, Jan 9: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will honour the South Canara District Central Co-operative Bank(SCDCC Bank) with the state-level award for the year 2007-08 in Bangalore on Monday January 19.
M N Rajendra Kumar, chairman, will receive the award on behalf of the Bank, for the achievement in implementing the self -help group schemes successfully and actrivities of forming and organizing the self help groups.
The SCDCC Bank gets credit for establishing Navodaya Self-help groups in the year 1999 and forming 33, 726 groups by the end of December 2008. It was organized with the support of various co-operative societies and self-service organization spread all over Dakshina Kannada district.
The Bank has provided loan of Rs 71.81 crore to 19,510 groups at low rates of interest.
The Bank has won the honour and recognition for being the best bank in the the district under the category. Over 200 motivators have been working in rural regions for organizing and guiding self help groups.
Apart from this, 'Devanari Farmers Service Society', of Bangady Co-operative Service Bank, functioning under the SCDCC Bank, received the second state-level award for 'Best Farmers Service Society' award, a release stated.
