Udupi, Jan 7: The play 'Namma Ulaidaye', presented by Ranjana Artistes, bagged the coveted Kemtoor Tulu Drama Award, in the competitition organized at the Mudana Mantapa of MGM College here. The Late Kemtoor Doddanna Shetty Memorial Tulu Drama Competition was jointly organized by the Manipal Academy of General Education and MGM College. The award carries cash reward of Rs 7,000.
Sangama Artistes secured the second place with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 for their play, 'Giraste'. The play 'E Nalke Daaye' by Udyavara Narayana Guru Yuvajana Kala Mandali got the third place with a cash prize of Rs 3,000.
Apart from the overall trophy, Prof M Prasad Rao recieved the award for being the best director, Shashiprabha Vivekananda as the best actress, Girish Tantri for the second best music, Srikrishna Raj Vadabandeshwara as the second best actor and also the award for best stage setting and lighting arrangement, for the play 'Namma Ulaidaye'.
The prize distribution function will be held at the Mudana Mantapa of MGM College on Sunday January 11 at 5.30 pm.
A panel of judges comprising of Padyana Parameshwar Bhat, critic, Santosh Shetty Hiriyadka, theatre artiste and novelist Katyayini Kunjibettu chose the winners.
The play 'Namma Ulaidaye' will be performed again at the prize distribution function, said Dr Bhaskarananda Kumar, president, Tulukoota, Udupi and Udyavar Nagesh Kumar, convener, Competition Organizing Committee.
