Madikeri, Jan 17: A person, who had lost everything he had including his house and plantation due to flash floods in the district during August 2018, and had been literally driven to streets, has committed suicide. This tragic incident happened in Jodupala village. The person who chose to commit suicide was N B Charan (38), who consumed poison.

Family members said that Charan ended his life out of the pain he was going through on account of the failure of the government to undertake rehabilitation programme in time.

Charan had fallen seriously ill on January 10 after consuming poison. He had been admitted into the district government hospital here for treatment. On January 11, he was shifted to a hospital at Mangaluru after finding that he was in need of advanced care. However, without responding to treatment, he died on January 12. A case about the death stands registered in rural police station here, and the case came into the open with inordinate delay.

Charan had five acres of land in Monnnangeri village. Most of his land was washed away due to landslide. The house he had at Jodupala also was taken away by the flood. Charan was driven to streets and he was worried about the repayment of three lac rupees loan he had raised from the banks and people known to him. It is said that he was even finding it hard to find means to meet the monthly medical expenses of his mother, a heart patient, amounting to Rs 3,000.

Charan's younger brother, Yatish N B, said that Charan was frustrated at the fact that the government was yet to provide the house it had promised. "He was always overwhelmed by the thought of repayment of loan after the plantation that provided income to the family was destroyed. He used to often shed tears, duly explaining the agony he was going through. Now he has committed suicide on account of this worry," he added.

Such a tragody.when problems arise it comes from all sides once. But one shouldnt loose his head and commit suecide.Tat helps noone, but it does more problem to your relatives ,family. They have to bea r it.more burden to them.Instead go to bank and ask for a extended time to pay, explaining situation.could also sellout a part of your land to repay. There is a answer to all problems ,but one should be ready to take it on his shoulders.I dont know whether there is a programm for anyone in banks when katastrophs like floods come and loose everything,if banks are ready to extend their timings to repay their loans,When no ,better they give a chance to them instead of farmers decide suecide. It will be big burden to their family then as before.Govt.should think of this.
