Bangalore, Jan 1:  Through the summons issued to ex-chief minister H D Kumaraswamy who has been cited as respondent on Wednesday December 31 2008,  the 32nd additional city sessions judge Prakash Kumar has asked the respondent to present himself in the court on February 25, 2009. The summons was issued, relating to a libel suit filed by the state government.

In the libel suit filed by the government, it has been alleged, that Kumaraswamy had made corruption allegations against the government and the chief minister Yeddyurappa, with the sole intention of bringing disgrace to  the chief minister. On Tuesday, the court had heard arguments to decide as to whether the suit was fit to be heard. On Wednesday, presenting his arguments, special public prosecutor Ravi B Nayak said that the ex-chief minister had alleged that chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had received huge sums of money as bribe for granting contract of building a residential complex for the poor persons living in Ejipura here, to Maverick Holdings. He said that these allegations were made with the sole aim of damaging the reputation of the government and the chief minister. Major newspapers and television channels had given wide publicity to the above statement.

In view of the above, Nayak had argued, that the case is fit to be considered for defamation proceedings. The court upheld his view and ordered issuance of summons to the respondent.
