Doha: Globalization Threat to Kannada Language and Culture—Dr Kambara

Doha, Dec 30: As a result of globalization, our culture and the growth of our language is likely to face setbacks, cautioned litterateur Dr Chandrashekar Kambara. 
 
Dr Kambara was speaking after presiding over the recently-held fifth ‘Kannada Samskruti Sammelan’. He further added that following western culture has increased due to globalization. Television channels have totally absorbed the western culture that misguides the viewers, said Dr Kambara.
 
He urged the Kannadiga expatriates, attending the Sammelan held at Gulf Cinema, to contribute their mite in promoting Kannada culture and language both in their hometowns and in the Gulf countries.
 


MLC and KLE Education Institutions chairman Prabhakar Kore inaugurated the Sammelan. 
 
Indian consul general Sanjay Kohli, MLC Shivaraj Sajjanar, Dubai Kannada Sangha president C R Shetty, Dr Nagoor, V S Mannangi, and Satish, were present on the dais.
 
Qatar Kannada Sangha president Arvind Patil welcomed the gathering.  Sammelan committee president K P Manjunath Sagar delivered the introductory address.  Madhu Qatar proposed the vote of thanks.  Ranganath Bharadwaj and Radhika Bharadwaj compered the programme.
 
Madan Patel, M Laxminarayan, Sandhya Keshav Rao, Vishweshwar Bhat, Elias Mangalore, Kopparam Annapoorna, Harish Kanjani, Hassan Chowgule, Veena Nagaraj, Kiran Godkindi, Deepa Rao, and Santosh Kulkarni, were honoured for their significant contributions in their respective fields.

    The word and meaning of "Globalization" does not have any threat or barrier to any language, culture, religion or nationality. Globalization is purely an adaptation of "Internationalism" in everything that we believe in and follow up in our daily survival in life. Every sixth person on this planet is an Indian, whereas every fifth person is a Chinese. When you travel all around the globe you see that almost every airport and every plane laod there is an Indian on the move. As we move along in life and as we travel abroad, as much as we carry our language, culture and religion, and even our diet, we also need to embrace other languages and cultures too, but we need to always be very protective of our faith. That's the best way to integrate ourselves with others that surround us and make this world a better place to exist and co-exist. This is the only way we shall be welcomed in other societies where we create a "global village" filled with many colors, many languages and many religions. For instance, just to share a story, we were travelling in a bus in Alaska couple of years ago. We were whispering with each other quietely in our Konkany language and a guy in front of us suddenly looked back at us and boldly asked whether we were talking "Thulu". He happened to be from Karnataka. We told him politely and lovingly that we were talking in Konkany and he also said that he is from Udipi and that he knows Konkany language too. However, for the next ten minutes that we were in the bus together we talked with each other only in English. We talked candidly and exchanged several great things about Karnataka and India. All the Alaskan travellers surrounding us listened to us and admired us that we as native Indians meeting each other almost 20000 miles away from our "Maathrabhoomy" and yet speak English so clearly and spontaneously, but also at the same time they recognized our native langauge so respectfully.Only by our speaking English they were able to share our exchange of short dialog. That is the beauty of "Globalization" and that is the value of "Global adaptation". That is the way of future survival too! Happy New Year !
