Doha, Dec 30: As a result of globalization, our culture and the growth of our language is likely to face setbacks, cautioned litterateur Dr Chandrashekar Kambara.
Dr Kambara was speaking after presiding over the recently-held fifth ‘Kannada Samskruti Sammelan’. He further added that following western culture has increased due to globalization. Television channels have totally absorbed the western culture that misguides the viewers, said Dr Kambara.
He urged the Kannadiga expatriates, attending the Sammelan held at Gulf Cinema, to contribute their mite in promoting Kannada culture and language both in their hometowns and in the Gulf countries.
MLC and KLE Education Institutions chairman Prabhakar Kore inaugurated the Sammelan.
Indian consul general Sanjay Kohli, MLC Shivaraj Sajjanar, Dubai Kannada Sangha president C R Shetty, Dr Nagoor, V S Mannangi, and Satish, were present on the dais.
Qatar Kannada Sangha president Arvind Patil welcomed the gathering. Sammelan committee president K P Manjunath Sagar delivered the introductory address. Madhu Qatar proposed the vote of thanks. Ranganath Bharadwaj and Radhika Bharadwaj compered the programme.
Madan Patel, M Laxminarayan, Sandhya Keshav Rao, Vishweshwar Bhat, Elias Mangalore, Kopparam Annapoorna, Harish Kanjani, Hassan Chowgule, Veena Nagaraj, Kiran Godkindi, Deepa Rao, and Santosh Kulkarni, were honoured for their significant contributions in their respective fields.
