MYSORE, Dec 28: The “moral police” will go around Mysore city on the eve of New Year to prevent organisers from holding celebrations if they find them against the culture and tradition of the land.
Bharatiya Janata Party city unit president B.P. Manjunath on Friday said five groups, each comprising 15 to 20 people, would be constituted and these people would visit hotels, resorts, clubs and community halls here where the New Year eve celebrations were organised to prevent the display of vulgarity in the name of celebrations.
Complaints
“We had come across several complaints from women artistes invited to perform during the celebrations last year that they were forced to perform obscene dances by revellers and the organisers. There were reports of eve-teasing too. In some parties, there are reports of people misbehaving with women,” Manjunath said. A decision would be taken to form a non-political committee for deciding on the steps to be taken, he said.
The BJP city president said: “We are neither against nor opposing the celebrations but we shall not tolerate disrespect shown to our culture by resorting to immoral, vulgar and obscene activities during the celebrations.”
“Last year, many women who came to participate in shows from Bangalore were asked to dance like live band artistes. Foreign women were harassed by people under the influence of alcohol.”
