Bengaluru, Jan 7: Behind-the-scene activities appear to be going on about the appointment of deputy chairman of NRI Forum Karnataka. The government has stayed appointment of Tanveer Ahmed from JD(S) it had earlier made to the post for the present.
The coalition partners have mutually agreed that appointments to ministry, corporations, boards, authorities and other government-owned concerns would be done after mutual consultation. Congress says that JD(S) has taken unilateral decisions in appointments to some of these entities, which include the appointments to Kannada Chalanachitra Academy, special representative of Karnataka government at New Delhi, and deputy chairman of NRI Forum.
There has been allegation that chief minister, Kumaraswamy, had not consulted Congress before making these appointments. Congress has questioned appointment of Tanveer Ahmed to NRI Forum. It wants this post to be given to it.
It is said that many Kannadigas in the Gulf have requested the chief minister to continue Congress leader, Arathi Krishna, in this post. The party has already appointed Arathi Krishna as the general secretary of Indian Overseas Congress.
All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Dubai and Abu Dhabi on January 11 and 12. Arathi Krishna said that he will take part in a convention of NRIs on January 11. Speaking at Dubai, she said that about 40,000 NRIs are expected to gather at Dubai Cricket stadium which would be addressed by Rahul Gandhi.
