Mangaluru, Jan 7: The city crime branch (CCB) police here have taken into custody three persons, who have been accused of involvement in the murder of Rakesh from Panjimogaru near here. The said murder happened within the jurisdiction of Kavoor police station.
The arrested accused happen to be Sunil Kumar alias Kauti (26), Praveen Poojary alias Chotu (23), resident of Kodical 6th cross, and Preetam alias Abhi (22) from Urwa Store Sunkadakatte Kalbavi. The accused were friends of Rakesh. The police claim that they were directly involved with the murder. The arrested accused persons have been handed over to Kavoor police station, the CCB police stated.

Rakesh from Urundadibail in Panjimogaru had been hacked to death with a sword at Maladi near Panjimogaru on the night of January 3. A complaint filed in Kavoor police station had named the accused as Praveen Poojary, Sunil Kumar, and another.
In the past, Sunil Kumar had faced two cases of assault in Urwa police station. He also had been arrested on the allegation of planning to murder businessmen for failure to pay protection money at the instance of underworld fugitive, Kali Yogesh, who is currently hiding abroad, in 2014. Sunil had been booked under the provisions of Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act.
Praveen Poojary had faced a case of robbery in Kadri police station and murder attempt case in the city (south) police station. He was also booked for ganja trafficking by the personnel of Alanahalli police station in Mysuru.
Preetham faces two cases of assault in Urwa police station and a case relating to ganja trafficking.
