Mangaluru Jan 5: Mangaluru Press Club in association with District Working Journalist Union, Pathrika Bhavan Trust and Patrika Bhavan observed 'Press Club Day' here at Urwa Church hall at Ladyhill on Saturday, January 5.

Addressing the gathering Gurukiran said, "I have shared good bonding with journalists in Mangaluru as they are the ones who supported me during my initial stages. Media is always a powerful platform. However, today we see some are inclined towards positivity and some negative and there is no balance. Media and teachers are the ones who can help the upcoming generation move ahead in a right channel.”
"Agriculturist Ammai Mahalinga Nayak achieved success without taking any help. As there was no guarantee of his success during his initial stage, achieving something great is commendable. I congratulate the media persons for recognising such a great personality and conferring him this award. This encourages a common man to achieve something,” said Gurukiran.
City Police commissioner T R Suresh said, "Mangaluru is known for its culture, art and tradition. Media friends are striving hard to save this culture and tradition through their Yakshagana performance. Today, agriculturist Ammai Mahalinga Nayak was felicitated as he was adamant to achieve success after facing lot of failures and criticism.”
“Journalists are the ones who facilitate people's freedom of speech. During the process they face lot of constraints and they will be on the receiving end. Some may not even think twice while attacking journalists. Attacking or abusing journalist is an offence as they are the ones who write the truth and bring to our notice,” he added.
