Mangaluru, Jan 5: Demanding the inclusion of Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution, Tulunada Rakshana Vedike and ' Kalavidara Ghataka' organised an agitation in front of DC office on Saturday, January 5.

Inaugurating the agitation Yogesh Shetty Jeppu, Founder of Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike said, "The people of Tulunadu are becoming strangers in their own soil. They are neglected by governments in all aspects and exploited in various ways. Tulu language has a history of 2000 years and it is the second largest language of Karnataka. It is eligible for declaration as a national language by inclusion in the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution. But political parties and our elected representatives have failed to take this issue seriously and promote our language in national level,”

“Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike has been fighting for inclusion of Tulu language in the eight schedule of the Constitution from its inception. Our delegations have met authorities and ruling party leaders many times to consider Tulu as a national language m. But no one has supported us. Whenever we hold declare agitation, some of our representatives give statements in media as if they are also fighting for the cause, We cannot understand, being the representatives of people with power, why they are not putting pressure on governments and speaking in parliament ? We urge them to stop the drama and respect the people of Tulunadu by taking immediate action on this,” Yogesh added.

“Our artists are struggling to get governmental benefits .There is situation here where they have to prove their talent in Kannada language only. Otherwise they are not getting consideration in national level. By this they are losing the opportunities. So it is the final request to all representatives from Tulunadu to work for Tulu language. This is the beginning. We want to Tulu to be declared second language of Karnataka and It should be included in the eight schedule of our Constitution at the earliest. Otherwise we will plan mass agitations including protests from of the residence of chief minister." he concluded.

Cine actors Ranveer and Rajitha Kudla also addressed the gathering.

Issue is pending for long time...technicality point looks the reason. Allanguages included in the 8th schedule are spoken by the people in respective areas/states districts totally.Even in Kodagu only kodava language is being spoken.Where as Tulu us the mother tongue ,being spoken in many households, areas in a scattered way.In Bramahvara in Udupi district bother Kannada and Tulu are in use in equal proportions. In DK dist three languages i.e. Tulu,Kannada and Konkani languages are in practice. In Kasaragod in Kerala too similar situation along with state language Malayalam.
What I see is that for any language to be included in the 8th schedule ,it is prerequisite that language should be exclusively in use in particular dist or state by majority people. This is not so in Tulu language case. Only way to proceed for the inclusion of Tulu language in the 7th schedule is that demand for delegate state or name the dist dakshina Kannada to Tulunaadu dist...If it happens task may become easier.
Tulu language truely deserves the status of inclusion in the 8th schedule of the cinstitutikn and it should be for all-round development of the ancient Dravidian language.

Elected representatives are least bothered as for most of them tulu is not their first language. All government jobs are filled and transported from gatta and placed in tulunadu and tuluvas are forced to speak in their language . To erase tulu identity in its own soil our master planers have already renamed many of the tulu names to kannada .eg: karkala, uppinagadi, jappinamogaru, etc etc....finally mangaluru.... jai tulunad....!

Tulu is gaining a fast momentum. It is spoken in other countries too. Other Dravida language speakers should promote and support Tulu. Tulu will be another colorful feather in the Cap. The day will not be far it will be included in the 8th Schedule. Hope for the best.

What/Who will stop TULU Zealots from promoting TULU?
We have been taking things for granted all theses years - we need to develop TULU Script and much
more seriously all the nitty-gritty's of linguistic essentials!

Most people believe and behave as if TULU is a minor dialect!

We must support Yogish Shetty to develop and promote TULU - rather than be on the street.

Tulu Nad should become a separate state, and Tulu Language should be made the official language of Tulu Nad State. It should be included in the eight schedule.

    Jai Tulu Nad.

This is a pending issue since decades.
Tulu language is a southern Dravidian language. Other four Dravidian languages; Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam speaking population should help Tuluvians so that Tulu Language is recognized in the Eight Schedule . ..
