Bagalakote, Jan 1: "You should build Ram Mandir at Ayodhya now. Because, there is the risk of you not getting majority in the upcoming election," warned Pejawar Swamiji Sri Vishwesha Teertha.
"During the electioneering for the previous Lok Sabha election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had repeated his promise to build Ram Mandir if he was able to form the government. He enjoys majority now. He has to meet the poll promises he made before the next election. If he does not get majority in the election next time, a new problem will emerge," he pointed out.
The Swamiji was speaking to media persons at the town during his visit to Kaggoda to take part in Indian Cultural Festival.
"After he lost assembly election in three states, Narendra Modi's charisma has dented. He is facing more obstacles now and his sway over the people is not at the level it used to be in the past. This can be seen by the results of the assembly elections held in five states recently. He needs to take cue from the defeats and stay alert," he advised.
The Swamiji said that people have waited for Ram Mandir to become reality for five years. He added that now they are urging the government to act. He felt that the government should immediately take steps to build Ram Mandir at the disputed site. "Several legal luminaries have opined that in spite of the case being in the Supreme Court, an ordinance can be issued to build the temple. The government should take aggressive steps now to preserve the faith the people have reposed on it," he stated.
The Swamiji noted that Narendra Modi is being criticized for not waiving farm loans. At the same time, he noted that Modi believes that nothing should be given free of cost. However, in view of the fact that Karnataka government has waived such loans, Modi should also take similar steps, he opined.
Pejawar Swamiji objected to K S Bhagawan's statements about Lord Ram that are in bad taste. He invited Bhagawan to come to Udupi for a debate with him. Noting that in the past, a debate on the issue had been arranged between him and Bhagawan at Mysuru, which had to be put off as the government cited law and order problem. He said he is ready for one-to-one discussions on Rama in his Math. He said that if Bhagawan does not take initiative and come to Udupi for the programme, he would deem that he does not have the courage for debate.
