Mangaluru, Jan 1: "We have already submitted a proposal to the chief minister (CM),H D Kumaraswamy, pleading with him to upgrade Coastal Development Authority and urged him to ensure that the government supports this idea. The CM has promised to hold a detailed meeting on the proposal soon," said MLC Ivan D'Souza.
Ivan agreed that there has been a yawning gap between the original objective behind the setting up the authority and its present functioning. He observed that the authority has not been getting regular grants. "In the legislative council, I had demanded to allot Rs 300 crore for integrated development of coast and to post legislators as members of the authority's board," he stated.
Ivan said that the government's attention has again been drawn towards this issue and the CM has assured to hold meeting of the authority soon to consider proposal to improve its working.
