Mangalore: Case Registered against Ullal SI H Shivaprakash

MANGALORE, Dec 21: The Ullal police have filed a case against their sub inspector H. Shivaprakash for alleged illegal detention of Kabir Ullal, member of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties and the Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike.
After the police officials in the district allegedly refused to register a case against Shivaprakash,
Ullal filed a petition with the First Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Mangalore), who directed the Station House Officer of the Ullal Police Station to file a first information report (FIR), based on the complaint lodged by Ullal.
According to the complainant, on October 10 the sub inspector, along with three police officers of the Ullal Police Station “forcibly entered” his house in plain clothes and beat him.
They then dragged him to the police station, allegedly without a warrant.
Ullal has alleged that he was tortured for about 10 hours at Ullal prison. He claims to have undergone treatment at Government Wenlock Hospital here for the injuries, allegedly caused by the police.
In the first information report filed by the police, Shivaprakash has been made the prime accused while Abdul Rasheed, Usman, Mustafa, K.P Abdul Khader, Basheer and two women are co-accused.
Superintendent of Police N. Sateesh Kumar told The Hindu, the the matter would be investigated by a senior officer.
