Mangalore, Dec 20: The inaugural of ‘Championship-2008’ for ‘Mr Dakshina Kannada’, will be held at Daivajna Kalyana Mantapa, Marigudi Road, Urwa, on Sunday December 21 at 4 pm.

The event is being organized by Dakshina Kannada Body Builders’ Association.

There will be seven categories for seniors, six categories for juniors, three for masters and one for handicapped, said Ravindranath Rai, president of the Association at a press conference on Friday December 19.

The competition is being held to select the best district team for the state championships to be held at Hospet on Saturday February 7 and Sunday February 8, he said. Over 200 competitors from 30 affiliated gyms from the district will participate on the occasion.

Mayor Ganesh Hosabettu will preside over the function and distribute prizes to the winners.

Rakesh Malli, president, INTUC, Dakshina Kannada district, Gopal Shetty, proprietor, Joy soft drinks, and Dilip Kumar, proprietor, Win Sports, will be the guests of honour.

Tejpal Amin, secretary, association, Kishore Kumar, Sharat Kumar, and K P Kunder, were present at the conference.
