Mangaluru: Hoigebail Sanjay murder - guilty gets life term sentence

Mangaluru, Dec 28: Ashrith (23) who had been found guilty by the first additional district and sessions court here, has been awarded life term imprisonment in addition to one lac rupees fine. The court had found him guilty of murdering Sanjay alias Varun (19) at Hoigebail here in the year 2014.

The court had declared Ashrith as guilty in the case on December 24.

The court also prescribed that if Ashrith fails to pay the fine as stipulated, he will have to undergo an additional jail term of one year. It has ordered Rs 90,000 out of the said sum to be disbursed to the parents of the murdered youth. The court also said that the parents of Varun also are eligible to get additional compensation through the legal services authority. 


Sanjay alias Varun

Judge of the court, Sharada B, pronounced the judgment on sentencing. Public prosecutor, Raju Poojary Bannadi, had represented the prosecution in the court.

In a complaint filed in Urwa police station, Ashrith and some others were accused of stabbing Varun with a knife to death on May 22, 2014. The then inspector of the police station, Ramachandra Maledevar, had investigated the case and filed charge sheet. Five of the accused stand absolved of the charges by the court.
