Bengaluru, Dec 28: A Jet Airways aircraft that was ready to take off from Bengaluru to Mangaluru, terminated its journey at the last minute as smoke was sighted in the aircraft at about 7 am.

The flight with 71 passengers on board including Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, U T Khader, was about to take off when smoke was sighted and passengers too smelt it and turned panicky. The pilot refused to fly the aircraft thereafter. It was felt that the smoke would have been caused due to short circuit.

The passengers of this flight were deplaned brought to the city in another aircraft which left Bengaluru at 8.45 am. Khader had planned to come to the city in time to welcome President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, who came here on Thursday on his way to Udupi.
