Bengaluru, Dec 23: The Bengaluru cyber crime sleuths have arrested a person from Nagaland who was cheating people by posing as an Income Tax officer.
John Kajiche from Dimapur, who was residing in Ejipura, used to call up people randomly and claim he is an Income Tax officer. He used to tell people that he will send a link, and they must update their IT details.
The link sent by Kajiche made unsuspecting victims enter their personal and bank account details. Later, Kajiche used to call them and ask OTP. Then he used to withdraw large amounts of money online.
Kajiche who has cheated several people using the same modus operandi, was caught when a person from Nobo Nagar who lost Rs 2.2 lac, complained to the police. The person who fell into Kajiche’s trap informed the cyber police, who traced that Kajiche had opened a bank account in his name with a private bank in Adugodi in April and was using it for his fraudulent activities.
The police nabbed him from his residence in Ejipura and seized his phone from which he made calls. The sleuths are now on look out for Kajiche’s associate who is absconding.
