Raichur, Dec 16: "Chief Minister Yeddyurappa has got the doctorate from an university in the USA for creating a record in issuing false promises. Not only the voters, but all the knowledgeable people should think as to how far is he eligible to get a doctorate," fumed opposition leader in the assembly Mallikarjun Kharge.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday December 15, Kharge questioned as to what is the contribution of Yeddyurappa to the society to merit the doctorate. "Has he initiated any social or economic revolution? Has he worked for environment conservation?," he asked.
Someone must have recommended his name. Some university came forward to confer on him the doctorate. He should have judged his own credentials and rejected the doctorate, he felt.
"The government has gone bankrupt. It has no money to meet educational expenses of scheduled caste and tribe students who were selected on merit. Tax collections have suffered. The state government has availed overdraft while previous chief ministers had never drawn the same. BJP wants to lead the state to the verge of bankruptcy," he charged.
