Bangalore: NRIs to Help Renovate Temples

Bangalore, Dec 16: As many as 500 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) have responded to the State Government’s plea seeking contribution for renovation of temples administered by Muzrai Department. Minister for Muzrai Krishnaiah Setty, on Monday, told press persons that the NRIs have come forward to contribute funds ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for renovation of temples.

“The response is subdued on account of global economic recession. At least 2,000 NRIs would have responded to the plea otherwise. Most of these respondents are natives of  Dakshina Kannada. They have evinced interest to develop temples in their district”, he said. Setty said that over 100 NRIs have expressed their wish to contribute Rs 10 lakh. The funds would be used for renovation of the temple structure and providing basic infrastructure.

    Hi, I am very much pleased that NRI's are helping towards us for renovating temples, but they can also help the needy. At present, my mother is suffering from Kidney failure and she is on dialysis twice a week. Per month we are spending 20 - 25 thousand. We have no support from anyone and we are economically backward. No house and lots & lots of difficulties. I mean to tell that their help can be very useful for us.

    There are thousands of poor hindus without proper shelter, food and thousands of girls could not marry  because they could not pay the dowry and marriage expenses. Do something for those poor hindus instead of pouring money on temples. Every street and every trees and everywhere nowadays we can see Gods and Poojas we are pouring lacs of rupees to God everyday. Spend on the poor "Janatha Seveye Janardhana Seve"

    I am appalled at the State Govt's plea to NRI's for help for renovating the tempels. Temples generally have devotees' contribution during each Puja. Why can't this be used for renovating the temples ? I understand certain amount is payable to the Govt., why can't this amount be after deducting the renovation costs ? NRIs contributed generously to towards the country's financial problems during recession by remitting millions of Rupees. Please do not take unnecessary advantage of their existence. Once they lose their jobs abroad, their plight is very miserable in India because they have to start from square one by either investing in some business or finding a job. Ministers need one excuse or the other to go abroad and suck the NRIs over any excuse. God knows how much of the collected amount goes to their own pocket.
