Sullia, Dec 13: In the wee hours on Friday December 12, a gang of robbers forced their entry into the local court premises after tying up the watchman there but returned empty-handed as they could not lay hands on anything worthwhile.
The gang, which entered the court premises at around 3.30 am, tied up the watchman K P Mahesh (33) with clothes and gagged him with a plaster before dumping him in a room. They then threatened him and snatched away the key bunch of the premises from him. They whisked him for possessions like cash and mobile sets but failed to get anything.
The thieves succeeded in entering a room in which things seized by the court have been kept. They were specifically searching for sandalwood pieces but did not get them. They opened locks of seven rooms but were frustrated at not getting anything and left. The cleaner of the premises who arrived in the morning, heard whining sounds from a room and informed the wife of the judge in the quarters, as the judge was away.
The policemen, finger print experts and sniffer dogs were rushed to the spot for conducting investigations. The watchman has been hospitalized with injuries to his ear drums. Although it is felt that the miscreants wanted to take away sandalwood pieces stored in the court godown, it is yet to be ascertained as to whether they took away any valuable documents.
