Chennai, Dec 12:
The Chennai city police has shot off a letter to the BCCI seeking ‘necessary action’ against pacer Zaheer Khan for shouting at police officers on duty at the Taj Coromandel hotel.

The police commissioner K Radhakrishnan has written to BCCI secretary N Srinivasan following a report on the incident submitted by deputy commissioner of police (Anna Nagar) M Pandian, also the officer in-charge of security arrangements at the hotel.

"We have taken this incident to the knowledge of the BCCI for any appropriate action that they deem fit against Zaheer Khan," Radhakrishnan told TOI.

The commissioner said he would not go into the details of Zaheer Khan’s misbehaviour since he had already written to the BCCI.

Sources said that Zaheer Khan behaved in a "high-handed" manner with Pandian after police personnel stopped a former Ranji Trophy player, Thiru Kumaran, from entering the lobby to meet Zaheer.

Zaheer shouted at the police that they had "no authority" to stop his friend, the sources said, adding that the left-arm pacer also prevented Kumaran from being frisked.

Security has been heightened in Chennai for the Test match after the Mumbai attacks and around 3,000 police personnel were deployed at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday.

In this tense environment, everybody must exercise restraint. Zaheer is no exception and he actually must realise that the onus is more on him because the strict security is basically meant for the security of both the teams and not only the English team.
