Kasargod, Dec 17: Some incidents of violence were reported from the town and elsewhere during the time people were returning after taking part in the Hindu Samajotsava organized here on Sunday December 16. Miscreants pelted stones at the vehicles which were returning after participation in the said programme, giving rise to group clashes.
The police resorted to caning the crowd to restore order. Several were injured in this incident. Stones were also thrown at a business establishment at Uliyathadka. Several merchants complained that the police had forcefully closed down several shops and other units and committed atrocity on the concerned.
Condemning the incident, protest by way of closure of shops and other establishments in Uliyathaka town from 6 am to 1 pm is being staged today. Stone pelting incidents happened in some other parts of the district too. When stones were tossed at a car at the Press Club junction in the town, a person named Ranjith was injured.
In view of untoward incidents, the police have been keeping a close vigil. They have undertaken precautionary measures to ensure that the disturbances do not vitiate further.
