Mangalore, Dec 11: The Carmelite Friars of the Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill, Mangalore, will celebrate their 21st ‘Carmel Day’ on Saturday December 13 at 5.30 pm at Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte. The highlight of this year’s Carmel Day is a Konkani Biblical drama, ‘Tunch To Monis’, based on the life of King David.
It is a light and sound drama similar to ‘Dha Updes’, which was presented by 300 artists at Cordel Church, recently. However, in this drama, around 50 actors belonging to the family of Carmel will participate and enact different biblical roles.
The drama is written by Joel Pereira of ‘Dha Updes’ fame and is directed by Maxim Rodrigues. The songs and music are provided by Fr Alwyn Sequeira. The friars will also present a variety of cultural programmes.
Mariamma Thomas, corporator, Padua ward, will be the chief guest while Fr Archibald Gonsalves, provincial, Karnataka–Goa province, will preside over the cultural evening.
The ‘muhurat’ for the drama was held recently on the monastery premises, in the presence of the writer and director of the drama. Benna of Bens Electricals, (light and sound manager) and Alwyn Bajal (stage manager), were also present for the programme. Fr George Santhumayor, welcomed the gathering while Br Prakash Tauro proposed the vote of thanks. Bro Elias D’Cunha compered the programme.
Entry is open for all to watch this unique programme in Konkani staged by the priests and brothers of Carmel Hill.
