Belagavi, Dec 15: The state assembly, at its session on Friday December 14, gave nod for the formation of a committees headed by legislators for disposing off of applications from Bagar Hukum agriculturists under Akrama Sakrama scheme.
Towards this end, an amendment bill brought to Land Revenue Act 1964 was approved by the assembly. Now it is proposed to extend Akrama - Sakrama scheme by two more years for disposing off the remaining applications.
In the absence of revenue minister, R V Deshpande, law and parliamentary affairs minister, Krishna Byre Gowda, convinced the house about the need to pass the amendment bill. "9,937 applications submitted in form No. 50 and 1, 84,329 applications in form No. 53 are pending disposal in the state for regularization of encroached land," he explained.

"The deadline for disposal of applications ended in April this year. Therefore, an amendment needs to be brought to the law to enable formation of Bagar Hukum Committee chaired by MLAs. About two years would be needed to dispose off all pending applications. When he was the revenue minister, Kagodu Thimmappa had tried to settle all theapplications. But as the MLAs are dithering in disposing off ineligible applications, lacs of applications are pending," the minister explained.
He said that if the legislators handle applications that are in order on priority, eligible people would be able to get title deeds for the lands they are cultivating at the earliest.
