Udupi, De 12: Deputy commissioner of the district, Priyanka Mary Francis, said that start-up centre, where all information as well as guidance and assistance would be made available to set up new enterprises in the district will begin functioning in association with the department of industries within a month.
She was speaking after inaugurating a programme to extend information about credit facilities being extended by Karnataka State Finance Corporation (KSFC) which was organised under the joint aegis of KSFC and district industries centre here for facilitating development of industrial and service sectors.
"Our district has a large number of talented, enthusiastic, skilled youngsters. They have conceived a number of excellent plans including the one of turning saline water into fresh water, and turning garbage into resource. These youngsters are raring to set up industries. They are in need of suitable guidance and information about finance available from different institutions at low rates of interest, how to avail loans, and to obtain permission from various departments for starting these units. With the specific objective of extending a helping hand to such young people, district industries centre will be opening a start-up centre at Manipal Industrial Centre within a month. This centre will provide all kinds of guidance for setting up new industries, how to get different kinds of assistance etc. I request the young industrialists from the district to make the best use of this facility," the deputy commissioner said.
She further observed that certain institutions have already been extending employment oriented training here, but the youngsters get only the traditional trainings which have not undergone any improvements since long. Several people have started industries after getting this kind of training, but the profitability of these entities is comparatively less. Therefore, the youth should get training about starting of industries with new concepts and ideas. We are giving impetus to tourism in the district. Things like homestay, tourist guide etc can improve earnings. At present, solid and liquid waste management units are being run by gram panchayats alone. So far, 45 gram panchayats from the district have been successfully running SLRM units and have earned revenue of over Rs 11 lac. If individuals come forward to start such units, we will provide them training and permission to do so. Dry waste collection and scientific disposal can bring good revenue," she opined.
Joint director of district industries centre, Ramananda Nayak, presided over the programme.
President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry here, Srikrishna Rao Kodancha, and president of district small scale industries association, I R Fernandes, were present.
KSFC Mysuru circle general manager, B C Shivaprakash, delivered introductory address. KSFC city assistant general manager, B S Moideen, welcomed. Assistant director of district industries centre, Seetharam Shetty, presented the programme.
