Mangalore, Dec 8: The DCIB police led by deputy superintendent Jayant V Shetty, arrested five persons accused of doubling money, on Saturday December 6 near Debbeli in Harekala village, near here. The five were then handed over to the custody of Konaje police.
The arrested have been identified as Prashant (23), a resident of Aleppey, in Kerala, Vidhu G Nair (22), a resident of Cherkala Alappula, Kasargod taluk, Shabbir (33), a resident of Gubbi Road, Mettali village, Bhatkal, Humayun Shaikh (40), a resident of Ulaibettu, Mallur village, and P H Abdul Razak, a resident of Badriya in the city.
The police also recovered reams of papers and bottles of chemicals that were used in the crime. Police sources informed that Shabbir, one of the accused, has been involved in petty crimes in the past.
DCIB assistant sub-inspector Narayan Maniyani, head constable Anand, Rama Poojary, Chandrashekar, Sunil, Avil D’Souza, Girish Bengre, Shaju Nair, Rajendra Prasad, Mohammed Iqbal, and Shiva Naik, were involved in the operation.
Konaje sub-inspector S F Lohar is investigating the case under city rural inspector Lingappa Poojary.
