Chikmagalur, Dec 4: Hyarambi Harish, suspected to be having links with the naxals, surrendered to the police here on Tuesday December 2. District additional superintendent of police M Mutturaya was present during his surrender.
In a press conference held in a secluded place a few days back, Harish had told the pressmen that he wanted to return to the mainstream and give up naxalite ideals.
Immediately on surrender, the policemen took him into custody for questioning. Anti-Naxal Squad sources say that apart from telephone numbers of naxals leaders, photographs of Harish in naxal outfits flaunting arms were found at his house. They also claim that they recovered some proof about Harish having participated in a meeting in which Ravi, a slain naxalite, too was present, from his home. However, no cases have so far been booked against Ravi by the police.
It is thought that Harish, who used to inspire young people to join the naxal movement, grew jittery after a number of naxals were done to death of late. The police feel that more naxals from the district might give up arms in due course.
