Mangalore, Dec 4: After a caller informed that a bomb had been planted in the local Empire Mall on the night of Wednesday December 3, the policemen conducted detailed inspection of the entire building.
At around 9 pm on Wednesday, a hoax call was received at a Kannada daily office located in Manipal. An unanimous caller who spoke in Hindi, informed the paper that a bomb had been planted in the said mall located on M G Road here. After saying that the mall would turn into rubble in a few minutes, the caller severed connection. This information was passed on to the Udupi police, who in turn, kept Mangalore police informed of the call.
Both the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs squad conducted exhaustive inspection of the entire building thereafter, for about an hour. No suspicious objects were found during the process.
The district superintendent of police N Sateesh Kumar asked the policemen not to take chances and take up the operation, although it was guessed that the call was a boax. It may be recalled, that similar calls had earlier been received at Mangalore office of the Infosys Technologies, Kudroli Lord Gokarnanatha temple and Kollur Mookambika temple, which turned out to be hoaxes. The policemen are trying to pin down the caller who made the call on Wednesday.
