Mangaluru Nov 30: District-in-charge minister U T Khader has opposed the privatisation of Mangaluru International airport.

Addressing media here on Friday, November 30, U T Khader said, “Plans have been made to privatise Mangaluru International Airport without considering the pros and cons. This move is an injustice to the people of coastal belt. There have been several recommendations to rename Mangaluru airport in the name of Srinivas Mallya but in this regard no voices are been raised from those who are in the responsible position.

“If the Airport is privatized, then there will be no security for the workers. Till today no explanation has been given on why it is being privatized. State government has spent a lot of money over land acquisition but all of a sudden this move of privatization is wrong. Mangaluru International Airport has developed a lot and has reached to a good position, then why is there a need for privatization,” Khader questioned.

New clause under building violation laws

Speaking on the government’s new mobile tower policy, Khader said, “A clause will be introduced under building violation laws. Earlier the owner was held responsible for building violation, where as per the new clause even engineer will be booked who has given permission to the building.”

Government to construct houses for affected flood victims of Kodagu

Khader revealed that Chief Minister Kumaraswamy has agreed to grant funds to construct new houses for affected flood victims of Kodagu. “As many as 840 families have lost their houses during the recent floods at Kodagu. Independent house of 2 bed room will be constructed. Each costs up to Rs 9.45 lac. Even for the fulfillment of basic facilities such as roads, drainage, water, electricity, Rs 32 crore has been sanctioned from Revenue department,” he said.

“Nine areas have been identified for the construction of the new houses for the affected flood victims. Of which, two places have been rejected by Archeology department. Work will commence in four of the seven approved areas from December 7,” he said.

Former MLA Abhayachandra Jain, district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, district Congress president Harish Rai and others were present.

Mr. Khader is a good minister. I do not know the pros n cons of privatization. But mangalore airport is developing. We in Karnataka /DK could not even implement the aircrash investigation recommendation of runway extension while our neighbor kerala already built kannur airport... Atleast 40% people were from kerala going via Mangalore.
Looks like they can even land wide body jetliner at kannur airport. While we are at A320s and B 737 from 50yrs. Is there any one really looking to develop what we already have??

Govt wants sell Airports in the name of Development, but the main infrastructure in the Airport is terminal building, Runway and Taxiways. The AAI has spent hundreds of crores on making new runways and Taxiways. And still some projects are under process which if completed, there is no further scope of development in respect of Infrastructure. State govt has given around 450 acres of land free of cost to AAI or central govt and now Center wants sell and make money at the cost of Karnataka public money. Its total injustice.
And for your information even if it is privatized Airlines services, Customs Services and immigration will remain same and only the Airport Operator will change.
The cost to common man to fly through will go up due to High UDF, and usage of services.
I strongly oppose the move of Govt to privatize

If you look at Mumbai and Delhi airports, it's become world class only after the PPP model was used.
Same PPP model is bieng used in Mangalore airport case.
    So no point opposing it.

FYI, Air India and Indian Airlines are surviving only because of govt funding. If it was a privately owned entity then it would have been long ago in the coffin. Do you know bankruptcy of Vijaya Mallya's UB Airlines and now Jet Airways is in line to face the same fate. Soon there will be other airlines in the same queue. Airline is a very shaky business and its a burden even to the govt just a matter of prestige as national carrier.

If private companies take away jobs then why generic medicine shops were handed over to private parties? Why Udupi Government Hospital was handed over? Why KEB was corporatised as MESCOM,? Why UPA at center privatized many government owned companies?

Kindly dont privatize the airport.Things will go out of control.Let it be a state govt.airport.Instead think of building a new Airport somewhere between Mangalore and Bangalore.Either Udipi or kundapur side.

All our large airports are maintained by privately operated agencies, hence international recognition. And Modi government has taken a sensible decision to name the airports after the place they are located to avoid confusion and tongue-twisting pronounciation by the international pilots (for e.g. Chatrapati Shivaji Int'l Airport), Mumbai.
So, let our lovely airport be privatized and name retained.

@Mohammed bhai, A new airport which z nearly 150km far won’t make a difference but it’ll surely impact Calicut revenue.

    Mangalore z always safe n it’s here to stay👍🏻
