Mangaluru Nov 30: District-in-charge minister U T Khader has opposed the privatisation of Mangaluru International airport.
Addressing media here on Friday, November 30, U T Khader said, “Plans have been made to privatise Mangaluru International Airport without considering the pros and cons. This move is an injustice to the people of coastal belt. There have been several recommendations to rename Mangaluru airport in the name of Srinivas Mallya but in this regard no voices are been raised from those who are in the responsible position.
“If the Airport is privatized, then there will be no security for the workers. Till today no explanation has been given on why it is being privatized. State government has spent a lot of money over land acquisition but all of a sudden this move of privatization is wrong. Mangaluru International Airport has developed a lot and has reached to a good position, then why is there a need for privatization,” Khader questioned.
New clause under building violation laws
Speaking on the government’s new mobile tower policy, Khader said, “A clause will be introduced under building violation laws. Earlier the owner was held responsible for building violation, where as per the new clause even engineer will be booked who has given permission to the building.”

Even for the fulfillment of basic facilities such as roads, drainage, water, electricity, Rs 32 crore has been sanctioned from Revenue department,” he said.
“Nine areas have been identified for the construction of the new houses for the affected flood victims. Of which, two places have been rejected by Archeology department. Work will commence in four of the seven approved areas from December 7,” he said.
