Mangaluru, Nov 27: A trawler boat on fishing trip went out of the control of its driver when at sea. The boat had left Malpe beach and on the morning of Monday November 26, it had started to move erratically and its driver was unable to exercise control over it.
Fishermen from Sasihitlu, who saw that the boat was facing danger, immediately undertook rescue act and safely brought the boat to the shore. Five fishermen inside the boat were rescued.
The named 'Anjana Varshini' had left Malpe for fishing two days back. At around 3 am on Monday, the driver of the boat found that he could not exercise control over it anymore. Thereafter it began to move here and there. Fishermen who had reached the seashore observed the boat, and immediately tugged the boat ashore.
Chandrakumar, a local fisherman and member of Haleyangady gram panchayat, said that they had come to the shore for fishing but observed that the trawler boat in question was in danger. Thereafter the fishermen dragged the boat to safety and anchored it near Bhagavathi temple. "Five fishermen inside the boat were rescued. The sea was not rough yesterday but sometimes, such things happen when there is some change in the way the driver handles the boat," he added.
Jagadish of Coastal Security Force, Anil, Manoj, and Dilip of a team of local lifeguards, and local fishermen undertook this rescue act. Suratkal police went to the spot and gathered details.
Now efforts are being made to take the boat back to Malpe with the help of backhoe and some boats.
