Chennai, Nov 24 (IANS): Targeting a very niche segment - the kids rooms - the decorative paint division of Nippon Paint (India) has come out with a special paint that contributes to a child's wellness, a senior official said on Saturday.
"This is a very niche product with anti-formaldehyde, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and superior washable technologies. While the entire interiors of a home could be painted, we would want at least the child's room to be painted," S. Mahesh Anand, President (Decorative Business), told the media here on Saturday.
Anand said initially the company would target the home segment and then look at schools, creches, play schools and others.
He said children spend most of their time in their rooms if they have one and it is important to provide a healthy environment during their growth phase.
"Our target segment is the families with children in the age group zero to 12 years. Initially we are looking at the Chennai market and later expand pan India," Anand said.
According to him, from green rating, property owners are going in for wellness rating of their buildings.
Meanwhile, Nippon Paint is continuing with the pilot project Nippon Pro Store, that offers a full painting solution for homes.
The company has also trained 300 women painters as a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity.
Anand said the company has sufficient production capacity -- 10,000 kilo litres per month -- now with the plant operating at 56 per cent capacity utilisation.
