Mangaluru, Nov 22: Dakshina Kannada district Consumers Grievances Redressal Forum (Consumer Forum) has ordered Jet Airways to pay a compensation of Rs 1.72 lac to a passenger who had complained about loss suffered on account of delayed departure of a flight operated by Jet Airways from the airport here to Mumbai.

The passenger had said that because of the flight's delayed arrival at Mumbai, he could not catch a connecting flight from there, as a result of which he suffered losses. The Consumer Forum ordered payment of the said sum which includes loss suffered and compensation payable to the passenger.

The loss to the passenger has been put at Rs 1,02,800. Compensation of Rs 70,000 has been ordered to be paid, along with 8 percent interest per annum on the amount due with effect from January 3, 2017.

Omprakash Kayyar, residing at Field Street here, working for an import firm at Mombasa, kenya, had reached the city by a flight on December 8, 2016. He had booked four tickets for himself, his wife and children by a flight dated January 2, 2017 by paying a sum of Rs 2,99,529. The flight was to take the route to Mombasa via Nairobi. He was to go to Mumbai by a Jet Airways flight and catch an onward flight department at 4.30 pm. The Jet Airways flight which was to leave the city at 10.50 am left with undue delay at 4 pm. Therefore, the passenger said he had to stay for two days at Mumbai as he did not get connecting flight tickets. Thereafter, he paid Rs 1,02,300 and bought fresh tickets, he stated.

Omprakash had sought compensation of five lac rupees from the Jet Airways. On behalf of Jet Airways too arguments had been presented. Keshava Nondody had argued the case on behalf of the complainant.

    Good judgement by Consumer Forum as Jet Airways have to pay Rs. 1.72 lac to the passenger for the delayed flight. This will be a lesson not only to Jet Airways but other airlines.

    Same old story of Jet airways. Last year same my flight got cancelled no proper reason or nothing. At the end who has Visa shall go back . No flight were disclose to us . They will refund the amount on the spot. But we as customer have to call other traveling agent n ask for tickets which is priced 3 times more that too on Christmas. Not given hotel stay nor other flight.. nor even water to any passenger.. jet airways flight is always worst . Well we had to wait for our exit stamp to be cancelled. Early morning.. . That too on Christmas holidays.. daam terrible experience..

So, we, the lions with more power, think that these corporate bodies and political leaders are more powerful than we are and dance according to their suggestions. Resist firmly often, and next time these corporates would be careful, polite and courteous.

    It is an undeniable fact that Consumers are becoming aware of their rights and we need more forums to defend our rights. Even hotels serve stinking food and when complained the manager argues rudely as if the customer is a criminal. Wait, the days will come when we will wake up realize we are far behind time when it comes our rights as citizens and voters. Why politicians that we elect are allowed to enjoy retirement benefits until death and we the voters, the employers of these politicians, agree to die in poverty?

    The airlines and other service providers including our cable operators should not think the customer is a fool or gullible. All service providers and businesses should know that the customer is the King.
