Mangaluru, Nov 22: Dakshina Kannada district Consumers Grievances Redressal Forum (Consumer Forum) has ordered Jet Airways to pay a compensation of Rs 1.72 lac to a passenger who had complained about loss suffered on account of delayed departure of a flight operated by Jet Airways from the airport here to Mumbai.
The passenger had said that because of the flight's delayed arrival at Mumbai, he could not catch a connecting flight from there, as a result of which he suffered losses. The Consumer Forum ordered payment of the said sum which includes loss suffered and compensation payable to the passenger.
The loss to the passenger has been put at Rs 1,02,800. Compensation of Rs 70,000 has been ordered to be paid, along with 8 percent interest per annum on the amount due with effect from January 3, 2017.
Omprakash Kayyar, residing at Field Street here, working for an import firm at Mombasa, kenya, had reached the city by a flight on December 8, 2016. He had booked four tickets for himself, his wife and children by a flight dated January 2, 2017 by paying a sum of Rs 2,99,529. The flight was to take the route to Mombasa via Nairobi. He was to go to Mumbai by a Jet Airways flight and catch an onward flight department at 4.30 pm. The Jet Airways flight which was to leave the city at 10.50 am left with undue delay at 4 pm. Therefore, the passenger said he had to stay for two days at Mumbai as he did not get connecting flight tickets. Thereafter, he paid Rs 1,02,300 and bought fresh tickets, he stated.
Omprakash had sought compensation of five lac rupees from the Jet Airways. On behalf of Jet Airways too arguments had been presented. Keshava Nondody had argued the case on behalf of the complainant.
