Bengaluru, Nov 22: The celebrity couple, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh hosted a reception for their friends and relatives in the city on Wednesday, November 21. The specialty of their reception was that no plasticware was used during the event. DeepVeer made sure that only biodegradable tableware was used during the reception. This is really an exemplary act by the couple.
75,000 pieces of eco-friendly tableware were supplied for the reception by CHUK Company of Uttar Pradesh. These were basically bowls of 180 ml capacity. Communications head of the company, Swathi Agarwal, said that this responsible act of the couple should inspire many more to save the environment.
Swathi Agarwal says, "DeepVeer have led the change in the approach of the rich and the affluent during marriages. 10 million marriages take place in our country every year. If this is followed in all the weddings, it would really help a great deal in getting rid of the plastic scrap."
“This type of tableware, produced from sugarcane fiber, gets decomposed within 60 to 90 days compared to a plastic one which will take more than 500 years,” she added.
DeepVeer's gesture was lauded by Sowmya Reddy, MLA of Jayanagar constituency of the city and a vociferous advocate of environment-friendly products. Sowmya said, "It is my firm belief that every human being can do his or her bit for the environment. I am elated that celebrity couple like DeepVeer led the revolution by using eco-friendly tableware for their reception."
Sowmya's marriage in 2015 was also an eco-friendly one. Recalling her wedding, she said, "My wedding was one of the first environment-friendly marriages. Plastic cups were not used at all. The waste generated during the event was segregated properly and we also made sure that the guests did not waste their food."
In addition, the decoration for the wedding of Sowmya was also eco-friendly. Only flowers made of recycled paper were used. The guests were given saplings as gifts in the wedding as well. Sowmya asked the younger generation to follow the footpath of DeepVeer when it comes to using eco-friendly products instead of plastic junk.
