Bengaluru, Nov 22: As a prelude to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Karnataka BJP unit nominated in-charges (Prabharis) and conveners (Sanchalaks) for all the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state.
Though BJP had announced the list of Prabharis and Sanchalaks in other states quite some time ago, the list for the state was kept pending due to the assembly elections and the subsequent by elections in five constituencies.
State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa
Going by the names in the list, it seems that the core committee led by B S Yeddyurappa has made wise choices for each region. The committee has also not violated the dictum of the party, which clearly states to appoint only an outsider who does not belong to the said constituency or region, as the Prabhari or Sanchalak.
The responsibility of Mysuru - Kodagu constituency is given to former DCM and senior leader of the party K S Eshwarappa who is a MLA from Shivamogga. The reason behind picking Eshwarappa for this constituency is to tackle Siddaramaiah of Congress, who is a native of Mysuru and both the leaders belong to the Kuruba community.
Jagadish Shettar, former CM and current MLA of Hubballi - Dharwad is assigned the responsibility of Bellary. Earlier this stronghold of Reddy brothers was managed by B Sriramulu. It may be recalled that in the recently held by elections for Lok Sabha, Congress had won by record margin of votes, thus sidelining the influential Sriramulu. Sriramulu is assigned the Koppal Lok Sabha seat for the upcoming elections.
Bengaluru South constituency is given to Subba Narasimha, known as Subbanna in party circles, the close aide of deceased BJP leader Ananth Kumar. It seems that with Subbanna getting the responsibility as in-charge for the Bengaluru South Lok Sabha constituency, Tejaswini, wife of late Ananth Kumar is likely to get the nod from the party as the candidate. In addition, BJP has nominated MLA R Ashoka, who is also one of the close aides of late Ananth Kumar as the convener for the Bengaluru South constituency.
Other in-charges are C T Ravi for Hassan, Sunil Kumar for Dakshina Kannada, Araga Jnanendra for Udupi - Chikkamagaluru, Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri for Shivamogga, Aravind Limbavali for Tumakuru, Ashwathanarayana for Bengaluru Rural and Krishna Reddy for Bengaluru North.
