Bengaluru, Nov 20: The Congress high command has assigned a new task to the two influential leaders of Karnataka Congress.
Former CM Siddaramaiah and water resources minister D K Shivakumar have been assigned the task of campaigning for the legislative assembly elections of the neighbouring state of Telangana.
The high command had given the responsibility of campaigning for the party and coalition candidates to Siddaramaiah for the recently concluded by-elections for five seats in Karnataka. D K Shivakumar was given the special assignment of making the Congress candidate win in the Ballari Lok Sabha constituency, which was the strong hold of Reddy brothers.
In the bye elections for the five seats, Congress - JD (S) alliance candidates have won in four constituencies. That too in Ballari, V S Ugrappa of Congress, won by record margin. So the high command which is pleased by the performance of these leaders has given them the new responsibility.
Election for the 119 seats of Telangana legislative assembly will be held on December 7. Intense campaigning for the same is already started. D K Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah will go to Telangana very soon and start campaigning in favour of the Congress - TDP alliance candidates.
Time and again Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar have proved that they have excellent capacity to organize things. So the Congress high command has put their faith in them and given this huge responsibility. Congress is determined to win and hold the reigns in Telangana.
In Telangana, the regional party TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) is the main opponent of Congress. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Congress have entered into an alliance and are fighting the assembly elections against their main opponent TRS. So Congress has taken this assembly elections as a prestige issue.
Lok Sabha elections are round the corner. So, both the prominent Congress leaders of Karnataka are asked to shoulder additional responsibilities and get ready for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Both the leaders have started working as per the guidance of the high command.
