Mangaluru, Nov 19: In a near miss, students studying in Baikampady Angaragundi Higher Primary government school escaped unhurt, after huge lorry container boxes stored on a land adjacent to their school came crashing down on the school building.
The huge boxes which were brought from NMPT were stored on a land one over the other and a private company from Baikampady industrial area was doing business using them.
Thankfully, the incident did not happen during school hours which would have otherwise caused mishaps.
The incident came to light when the school was opened on Monday. It was seen that the stones of one side of the school had collapsed and the containers on adjacent land were fallen on the school. The school’s western side wall has developed cracks and some of the stones from the wall have come out. School’s compound wall is completely damaged.
Mangaluru North Education officer Manjula inspected the spot after she was informed. Baikampady corporator Purushotham Chitrapur who also came to the spot took to task the leader of the company which had kept the containers dangerously one over the other. Parents of school children and local people arrived in large numbers and expressed anguish against the company. They expressed anxiety that if the containers had fallen during school hours, it would have caused loss of lives. Local people have urged to cancel the license of the company to store containers in the vicinity and move them. The company has agreed to reconstruct school wall and compound. School headmistress Ravikala Shetty has lodged a complaint with Panambur police station in this connection.
